Two Car Carport Dimensions: Width, Depth and Height for Two Vehicles

CarportBay Editorial Team Last verified

Sellers list two car carports 18 to 24 ft wide and 20 ft deep or more. Two 2025 Toyota Camrys leave 31.7 in per door gap at 20 ft wide, and two 2026 Ford F-150s leave 34.7 in at 22 ft and 42.7 in at 24 ft. A 20 ft depth is 3.9 in short of one crew cab F-150.

What are the dimensions of a two car carport?

A two car carport is a roofed frame with room for two vehicles side by side. Sellers list the width at 18 to 24 ft and the depth at 20 ft or more, and Table 1 covers six footprints drawn from seller listings and size guides. For roof styles and frame choices, see the guide to two car carport options.

Engineered Metal Buildings says its two-car carports typically start at 18 to 24 ft wide, 20 ft deep and 6 to 7 ft tall. Angi, in a guide updated July 8, 2026, gives 24 ft wide by 20 ft deep as the standard two-car size and says the width can grow to 30 ft. AA Metal Buildings recommends 20 ft wide as a baseline and 22 to 24 ft wide for full-size trucks and large SUVs. The sources differ, so this page works out the room for each vehicle pair instead of naming one size.

Table 1: Six two car carport footprints, with the door gap for two Camrys and two F-150s (arithmetic on published dimensions)

24x2457647.742.7Camrys workable, F-150s workable
24x3072047.742.7Camrys workable, F-150s workable

Area is width times depth. The gap per space is the width left after both vehicles, divided by three, because two vehicles leave three open spaces. A gap under 30 in is marked tight.

For a chart that lists every footprint, see the two car carport size chart by footprint. One vehicle needs less room, so start from the single-vehicle carport size.

How wide does a two car carport need to be?

A two car carport needs enough width for both vehicles and a door gap beside each one. The door gap is the width left after both vehicles, divided by three, because two vehicles leave a space beside the left vehicle, one between them and one beside the right vehicle.

Two 2025 Toyota Camrys, each 72.4 in wide, leave 31.7 in per gap at 20 ft wide. Table 2 shows five widths for six vehicle pairs. A gap under 30 in is marked tight and a gap under 12 in leaves too little room to open a door. Those two marks are CarportBay's working rule, not a code or a seller standard.

Widths exclude mirrors unless a row says so. Confirm your seller's frame dimensions.

Two sedans or crossovers

Two 2025 Toyota Camrys leave 23.7 in per gap at 18 ft wide, which is tight. They leave 31.7 in at 20 ft, 39.7 in at 22 ft and 47.7 in at 24 ft. Two 2025 Honda CR-Vs, each 73.5 in wide, leave 31.0 in at 20 ft. The 18x20 carport page applies the same arithmetic to one larger vehicle.

Two pickups and the mirror gap

Two 2026 Ford F-150s, each 79.9 in wide, leave 26.7 in per gap at 20 ft, 34.7 in at 22 ft and 42.7 in at 24 ft. With mirrors extended to 95.7 in each, the 20 ft gap falls to 16.2 in, so the mirrors are what close the door space. Two 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cabs, each 81.1 in wide, leave 33.9 in at 22 ft.

Plan7Architect, an architect's blog, lists 21 by 20 ft for two SUVs or pickups. At 21 ft wide, two F-150s leave 30.7 in per gap, and mirrors extended leave 20.2 in.

How deep should a two car carport be?

A two car carport 20 ft deep is 240 in from front to back, and that holds every sedan and crossover in this guide. A 2025 Toyota Camry, 193.5 in long, leaves 46.5 in. A 2026 Ford F-150 in its longest configuration, 243.9 in long, is 3.9 in past a 20 ft depth. A 2025 Silverado 1500 crew cab at 241.4 in is 1.4 in past it.

2026 Ford F-150, shortest configuration209.4+30.6 in+42.6 in+78.6 in+90.6 in+102.6 in+150.6 in

Depth left is the carport depth minus the vehicle length. A negative figure means the vehicle runs past the frame.

Why a crew cab F-150 needs 21 ft

At 21 ft deep, a crew cab F-150 leaves 8.1 in and a Silverado leaves 10.6 in. The shortest F-150 configuration, 209.4 in long, leaves 30.6 in at 20 ft, so the depth that works depends on the cab and bed. For more room behind the vehicles, see the 20x30 carport dimensions.

Two vehicles parked end to end need a 40 ft depth. Two Camrys measure 387.0 in end to end and leave 93.0 in of the 480 in. Two crew cab F-150s measure 487.8 in and are 7.8 in over.

A 24x25x10 two car carport is 24 ft wide, 25 ft deep and 10 ft to the leg top. It leaves 56.1 in of depth behind a crew cab F-150 and 42.7 in per gap for two F-150s. The 10 ft legs sit 39.3 in above the truck. This is arithmetic on a nominal footprint, not a seller listing.

Vehicle lengths drawn against a 240 in depth: a Camry leaves 46.5 in, a crew cab F-150 is 3.9 in over, and a 252 in depth clears it. Diagram: CarportBay.

How tall should the legs of a two car carport be?

The legs of a two car carport must stand taller than the tallest vehicle under them. A 2025 Toyota Camry is 56.9 in tall and a 2025 Honda CR-V 66.5 in. A 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cab is 75.4 in, and a 2026 Ford F-150 is 80.7 in at its tallest. Table 4 subtracts each height from the leg height.

Table 4: Leg height minus vehicle height (leg height, not clear height)
VehicleHeight (in)6 ft legs7 ft legs8 ft legs9 ft legs
2025 Toyota Camry56.9+15.1 in+27.1 in+39.1 in+51.1 in
2025 Honda CR-V66.5+5.5 in+17.5 in+29.5 in+41.5 in
2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cab75.4-3.4 in+8.6 in+20.6 in+32.6 in
2026 Ford F-150, tallest figure80.7-8.7 in+3.3 in+15.3 in+27.3 in

A negative figure means the vehicle is taller than the leg.

A 6 ft leg is 8.7 in lower than an F-150, and a 7 ft leg clears it by 3.3 in. A 7 ft leg clears a Silverado crew cab by 8.6 in.

Leg height is not clear height. Tubing and the roof edge sit below the top of the leg, so the clear opening is lower than the figure in Table 4. Engineered Metal Buildings describes its two-car carports as 6 to 7 ft tall, and Angi gives 7 ft as the minimum recommended carport height. Roof pitch and frame choices that change the height are in the guide to metal carport frame and roof options.

What do sellers list for two car carports?

Sellers list two car carports from $2,895 for an 18x20x6 to $4,545 for a 22x26x7 in this set, and the listings differ in height, roof style and installation. Table 5 shows six listings read on October 5, 2026, ordered by area, with the price per square foot worked out from the listed price and the nominal footprint.

Prices are listed by each seller on the date shown and change often. A listed price is not a quote.

The Carport.com listing states free installation and delivery, and the Discount Ramps listing is a do-it-yourself kit. A price per square foot compares listings only when they match in height, roof style and installation.

HomeGuide, updated January 16, 2026, puts a 20x20 two-car metal carport at $3,200 to $8,000 installed, or $8 to $20 per sq ft. Angi, updated May 3, 2026, gives $4,000 to $12,000 for a 20x20 two-car carport, or $10 to $30 per sq ft. At 400 sq ft, each guide's rate matches its own range: $3,200 to $8,000 and $4,000 to $12,000.

A listed price covers the carport itself. For which kits include legs, panels and hardware, see the carport kit buying guide.

What are two car carport dimensions in meters?

A 20x20 two car carport is 6.10 m by 6.10 m, or 37.2 sq m. Table 6 converts the six footprints from Table 1 at 0.3048 m per foot, shown to two decimals. Area is converted at 0.0929 sq m per sq ft and shown to one decimal.

Table 6: Two car carport footprints in meters (feet x 0.3048)

24x207.326.1044.6
24x247.327.3253.5
24x307.329.1466.9

These are conversions of nominal sizes, not seller metric figures.

Plan7Architect gives at least 6 m wide and 5.5 to 6 m deep for two vehicles, which are rounded plan sizes: 20 ft is 6.10 m and 18 ft is 5.49 m. A 6 m width is 236.2 in, and two 2025 Toyota Camrys leave 30.5 in per gap in it.

Does a two car carport need a permit?

Item 1 of 2021 IRC R105.2 exempts one-story detached accessory structures up to 200 sq ft from a permit. Each two car carport footprint in Table 7 is 1.8 to 3.6 times that line, so the exemption does not apply by area alone. The item does not name carports, and local codes differ.

Table 7: Each footprint against the 200 sq ft line in 2021 IRC R105.2, item 1
Footprint (ft)Area (sq ft)Against the 200 sq ft line

This table gives general information from the code cited above. Confirm current requirements with your local building department before beginning construction.

Which two car carport size fits my vehicles?

Table 8 maps each vehicle pair to the smallest listed width that leaves 30 in or more per gap, and to the smallest listed depth that holds the longest vehicle. Two sedans fit a 20 ft by 20 ft footprint with room to open the doors. The 20x20 carport page covers that size in full.

Two 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cabs22 ft21 ft33.922x21
Two 2026 Ford F-150s, mirrors extended24 ft21 ft32.224x21

Mirrors extended uses the F-150 mirror width of 95.7 in.

Pickups need more of both. Two crew cab F-150s need 22 ft of width for 34.7 in per gap and 21 ft of depth, and mirrors extended push the width to 24 ft. A 24x24 carport leaves two F-150s with mirrors extended 32.2 in per gap and 44.1 in of depth. The 24x24 carport dimensions page works through that size.

For the choice itself, see how to choose a two car carport size. Other footprints sit in the carport size guide and sizing calculator.
