Privacy Policy

Published and maintained by the CarportBay Editorial Team. Last updated .

This Privacy Policy explains what information CarportBay collects when you use carportbay.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have about it. CarportBay is an independent carport buying-research publisher. Your use of the site is also governed by our Terms of Use.

What We Collect

When you browse carportbay.com, we collect standard technical information your browser sends automatically, such as your IP address, device and browser type, and the pages you visit, through analytics and similar technology.

When you fill out a quote-request form on this site, we collect the information you enter directly, which currently includes your name, ZIP code, email address, phone number, and a general description of your project.

CarportBay does not ask for, and does not knowingly collect, sensitive categories of information such as health data, precise geolocation, or government ID numbers. If a future version of a form ever requests anything in that category, this policy will be updated to disclose it before that form goes live.

How We Use It

  • To operate, maintain, and improve carportbay.com.
  • To connect a quote request you submit with the dealers, installers, or manufacturers who can provide you with quotes, as described below.
  • To respond if you contact us directly.
  • To meet legal and recordkeeping obligations.

Who We Share It With

CarportBay works with a small, named set of partners. We do not sell your information to unrelated third parties, and we do not share more than each partner needs to do the job described here.

  • If you submit a quote-request form: we may share the details you submitted with Home Depot Installation Leads (via the Impact network), Modernize, or Angi/HomeAdvisor (via the Commission Junction network), so they or a contractor in their network can contact you about your project. Modernize and Angi/HomeAdvisor each operate their own contractor-matching network, so your request may be passed from them to one of the contractors in that network, not only to the partner you see named here. We earn compensation when a request is submitted and connected this way. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more on how this works.
  • If you click a product link on this site: you leave carportbay.com for a retailer's own site (Amazon, Wayfair, or The RTA Store). We do not collect or transmit your personal information as part of that click; the retailer's own privacy policy governs what happens from there.
  • Service providers: companies that help us run this site, such as hosting and analytics providers, acting under our instructions.
  • Legal reasons: if we are required to by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of CarportBay, our users, or others.

We do not currently run display advertising on carportbay.com. If that changes (for example, through Google AdSense), this policy will be updated before that advertising goes live, and the cookie and opt-out sections below will be updated to match.

How Long We Keep Information

We keep the information you submit through a quote-request form for as long as needed to connect you with the partner you requested and for our own recordkeeping of that referral, then delete or anonymize it. If you contact us directly, we keep that message for as long as reasonably needed to address it and to meet our own legal and recordkeeping obligations.

Children's Privacy

carportbay.com is intended for a general adult audience researching a carport purchase. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Your State Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, state privacy law may give you the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the method below. We aim to respond within the timeframe your state's law requires, generally within 45 days.

You, or someone you authorize to act on your behalf, can submit a request. You can also use our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page to submit an opt-out request directly.

Cookies and Global Privacy Control

CarportBay uses cookies and similar technology for basic site operation and analytics. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal, where required by law, as an opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information, so a visitor who has enabled GPC in their browser does not need to separately submit the opt-out form to have that choice respected.

This Site Is Intended for US Visitors

carportbay.com is operated in and intended for visitors in the United States. This policy addresses US privacy law; it does not address the privacy laws of other countries.

How to Submit a Data Request

Use our Contact Us page to reach us about this Privacy Policy or to submit a data request.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time, including as our monetization partners or data practices change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
