The door gap is the equal space beside the left vehicle, between the pair and beside the right vehicle: (240 in minus the two widths) divided by 3.
Two 2025 Toyota Camrys leave 31.7 in per space, two 2025 Honda CR-Vs 31.0 in, two 2026 Ford F-150s 26.7 in and two 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cabs 25.9 in. Why sellers list 21 ft, not 20
A 2026 Ford F-150 in its longest body is 243.9 in long, 3.9 in more than the 240 in of a 20 ft length. A 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cab at 241.4 in runs 1.4 in over. At 21 ft the F-150 clears by 8.1 in and the Silverado by 10.6 in. That margin is body length, not room to swing a door.
The shorter F-150 body, 209.4 in, leaves 30.6 in at 20 ft, so the body style matters as much as the model name. Metal Carport Depot states that no 20x20 model is offered on its page, while Keen's Buildings, Direct Metal Structures and Alan's Factory Outlet list one.

Sedan and SUV in 21 to 36 ft
A 2025 Toyota Camry, 193.5 in long, leaves 58.5 in of depth at 21 ft and 238.5 in at 36 ft. A 2025 Honda CR-V, 184.8 in long, leaves 67.2 in and 247.2 in. The $1,895 in a Metal Carport Depot search-result title is the 20x21 row, not a 20x20. Carport Central shows $10,046 for a 20x21x9 vertical-roof unit that it also titles 20'x20' double carport, which is $23.92 per sq ft over 420 sq ft.
Cost of each added 100 sq ft
In the Metal Carport Depot regular-roof ladder, each added 100 sq ft costs $400 from 21 to 26 ft, $350 from 26 to 31 ft and $400 from 31 to 36 ft. That is $4.00, $3.50 and $4.00 for each added square foot.
What leg height, roof style and gauge change
Leg height, roof style and gauge change the price of a 20 ft wide carport more than footprint does. Rows for 20x20 and 20x21 footprints seen on October 6, 2026 run from $1,799.10 to $10,046, which is 5.6 times apart.

Metal Carport Depot's ladder rows have 6 ft legs. Keen's Buildings lists 6 ft legs as standard on its 20x20, with options up to 20 ft. Carport Central's 20x20 starting price is for a 7 ft leg, and Direct Metal Structures' $1,910 is for a 9 ft eave. Compare rows only at the same height.
Regular, A-frame and vertical roofs
Metal Carport Depot's vertical-roof rows run $3,745 at 31 ft and $4,195 at 36 ft, which is $1,100 (41.6%) and $1,150 (37.8%) above its regular-roof rows at the same lengths. Keen's lists its 20x20 as an A-frame. Carport Direct lists A-frame and vertical roofs for 21 to 36 ft and vertical only at 41 ft.
Frame and panel gauge
Keen's lists 12 or 14 gauge frames. Carport Central lists a 14 gauge frame with a 12 gauge upgrade. Metal Carport Depot's 20x31x6 regular carport has a 14 gauge frame and 29 gauge panels. A lower gauge number means thicker steel.
Does a 20 ft wide carport need a permit?
A 20 ft wide carport of any listed length is over the 200 sq ft line in section R105.2 of the 2021 International Residential Code. That section exempts one-story detached accessory structures of 200 sq ft or less, as printed in the Grant County, Washington copy.
