10x20 Carport: 200 Sq Ft, What Fits and What Is Sold Under That Name

Side room is the space between a parked vehicle and the nearest post, measured across the width and counted per side with the vehicle centered. Table 1 gives it for named vehicles. The carport size guide and sizing calculator map other widths to other vehicles.

Side room per side equals the carport width in inches minus the vehicle width, divided by two, for a vehicle parked in the center. Table 1 uses published body widths. The F-150 has extra rows because its mirrors fold and extend.

CarportBay treats a gap under 30 in as tight. That is a planning marker, not an industry standard. Every row in Table 1 falls under it at 120 in. Mirror width, parking position and door swing change the real gap, so Table 1 is arithmetic from published dimensions, not a measurement.

Cars and crossovers

A 2025 Toyota Camry leaves 23.8 in per side at 120 in and 21.8 in in the kit's 116 in clear width. A 2025 Honda CR-V leaves 23.3 in and 21.3 in. The RAV4, Civic and Corolla rows in Table 1 give 23.5, 24.6 and 25.0 in. Spare length runs from 46.5 in for the Camry to 59.1 in for the RAV4. Carports R Us says a 10 ft carport leaves "about 1.5 to 2 feet per side" (page modified 2026-09-23), against 23.8 in, or 2.0 ft, for a Camry.

Full-size pickups

A 2024 Ford F-150 SuperCrew, 232.0 in long, leaves 20.1 in per side and 8.0 in of spare length, or 12.2 in per side with mirrors out at 95.7 in. The 2026 F-150 runs 209.4 to 243.9 in long, so the longest configuration overhangs a 240 in roof by 3.9 in. A 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cab, 241.4 in long, is 1.4 in longer than the roof.

Leg height decides the roof clearance. A 6 ft leg is 3.4 in below an F-150 SuperCrew roof, and a 7 ft leg clears it by 8.6 in. The tallest listed F-150 (80.7 in) clears a 7 ft leg by 3.3 in. The Arrow kit lists an 82 in door entrance height, 1.3 in above that truck.

Two vehicles

Two 2025 Toyota Camrys need 144.8 in of width against 120 in, 24.8 in short, so a 10x20 holds one vehicle. A 12 ft width still leaves a gap of -0.3 in per space, and a 20 ft width leaves 31.7 in in each of three spaces.

Heavy duty has no shared spec, so check tube size and gauge on each listing. 12 gauge steel is 0.1046 in thick and 14 gauge is 0.0747 in, so 12 gauge is 40.0 percent thicker. Table 3 lists each product with its class, listed price, price per square foot and the date it was read. No average is printed across classes.

Leg height changes the installed price. Steel and Stud and Carports R Us list +$340 at 10 ft, +$640 at 12 ft and +$1,180 at 14 ft on the $2,350 base. The same Arrow 10x20x9 differs by $341.01 between Home Depot and a Walmart marketplace seller, so compare sellers before comparing kits.

A 12x20 leaves the Camry 35.8 in per side, 12.0 in more than a 10x20, and the F-150 24.2 in with mirrors out against 12.2 in. A 10x15 is only 180 in long, shorter than every car in Table 1: the RAV4 by 0.9 in and the Camry by 13.5 in.
