Carport Installation Cost: What Guides and Sellers Print

Carport installation cost is printed as a labor rate, a total for the finished carport, or a seller's installed price. Angi's guide, updated September 22, 2026, puts labor at $3 to $10 per square foot. Three seller listings that include installation, read on October 6, 2026, ran $4.42 to $10.01 per square foot.

Sources: Angi (September 22, July 9 and May 3, 2026), HomeAdvisor (June 20, 2026), HomeGuide (January 16, 2026), Awnings Unlimited, 247PRO, Alan's Factory Outlet, Fixr, American Steel Structures, three seller listings read October 6, 2026, the International Residential Code and the City of San Antonio.

What does carport installation cost?

Carport installation cost is the price of putting a carport up on a prepared site, and sources print it in three different ways.

Cost guides print a labor rate per square foot or per hour, or a total for the finished carport with labor inside it. Sellers print one installed price for a listed size.

This page keeps the three kinds of number apart and shows each figure with its source and the date it was read.

The steps from permit to anchoring are in the carport installation guide.

The price of the carport itself, before any labor, is in the carport cost guide.

What do cost guides print for carport installation?

Eight cost guides read on October 6, 2026 print installation as a rate, a total, or both, and the table lists them by date, newest first.

What do sellers charge when installation is included?

Three seller listings read on October 6, 2026 state that delivery and installation are included in the listed price.

Price per square foot = listed price divided by length times width, rounded to the cent.

Skyline lists a regular price of $7,035, which is $15.63 per square foot. Alan's Factory Outlet prints its own averages of $4.56 for regular roofs, $5.01 for boxed eave roofs and $5.74 for vertical roofs, with delivery and installation included in the areas it serves.

Angi's metal installation guide (May 3, 2026) puts materials and labor together at $10 to $30 per square foot. Two of the three listed prices sit below its low end and the third is a cent above it. A listing covers one size, one roof style and one service area, so it is a data point and not a market rate.

How much does labor cost on its own?

Labor on its own is priced three ways: per square foot, per hour and as a share of the total.

Per square foot, Angi prints $3 to $10, HomeGuide prints $3 to $5 for kits and $10 for custom builds, and Awnings Unlimited and Fixr print $8 to $10.

Hourly rates run from $20 to $50 on 247PRO to $35 to $80 on Awnings Unlimited and on Angi's metal page. Alan's Factory Outlet puts labor at 20 to 40 percent of the total.

The table multiplies each rate by 400 square feet, a 20x20 footprint. The results span $1,200 to $4,000, so a labor line in a quote should name its basis before it is compared.

How does installation cost change with carport size?

Two guides print installed ranges by size, and the table divides each range by the footprint to show the rate behind it.

HomeGuide, Jan 16, 2026Size40x20, 800 sq ftPrinted range$6,400 to $24,000Per square foot$8.00 to $30.00

Angi's three sizes are for one mid-size car, two mid-size cars and one large RV. Three of HomeGuide's four rows equal its $8 to $30 per square foot rate times the footprint, so its size table adds little beyond that one rate.

The high end of every range is 3.5 to 3.75 times the low end.

What costs extra beyond the installed price?

Guides and sellers list several costs that sit outside a labor rate or an installed price, and the table shows the figure each source prints.

The two lighting figures differ by more than four times, and neither guide explains why.

What do sellers say installation includes?

The three listings in the price table state what the installed price covers and what the buyer supplies.

What three seller listings say installation covers
Alan's Factory OutletInstallation statementFree delivery and installation in most of Florida and select coastal areas of Texas, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi; anchoring includedBuyer suppliesA level siteOther linesA 170 mph wind rating and as-built drawings are listed at an added cost, and a 12 gauge frame is listed as an option
American Metal BuildingsInstallation statementFree delivery and installation; braces and anchors on every legBuyer suppliesNone stated on the listing pageOther linesPrices vary by location and exclude sales tax
Skyline Metal StructuresInstallation statementDelivery and installation included for most locationsBuyer suppliesLocal code compliance; anchors are listed for slab, dirt or gravel, and asphaltOther linesExtra fees may apply for remote areas or custom requests

The wind-rating upgrade has no price on the page read, so it appears as a stated option and not as a cost.

Carports sold with installation included are listed in the carports installed guide.

Why do carport installation cost figures disagree?

The figures disagree for four reasons that the pages themselves show.

First, guides and sellers measure different things. A guide prices a build with materials and labor, and a seller prices one listed carport with installation included.

Second, the same numbers repeat across sites: Angi and HomeAdvisor print an average of $6,372 and a range of $3,131 to $9,683. American Steel Structures prints $3,208 to $9,882 and names HomeAdvisor as its source.

Third, one publisher can differ from itself: Angi's carport guide (September 22, 2026) gives an average of $6,372. Its metal installation guide (May 3, 2026) gives $5,400. Its guide on who to call to build a carport (July 9, 2026) gives $3,600 for professional installation.

Fourth, dates differ: Fixr's figures are from August 19, 2022 and 247PRO's are from August 4, 2025, while Angi's newest page is dated September 22, 2026.

This page therefore shows each figure once, with its source and date, and blends none into one average.

Does a permit change the cost of installing a carport?

A permit adds a fee only where the local rule requires one, and rules differ by place and by size. The 2021 International Residential Code, section R105.2, exempts one-story detached accessory structures of 200 square feet or less from a building permit.

San Antonio's homeowner guide, dated June 2022, says all carports there need a permit. The city's fee schedule, revised September 2026, lists $184.00 for carport covers and decks.

Ask the local building department before adding a permit line to a budget. The carport permit guide covers rules and fees by place.

What does this estimate leave out?

The figures above leave out costs that depend on the site, the place and the carport, and the table lists six.

Six costs that the figures on this page leave out
Place and local labor ratesWhy it can move the pricePrices can differ by locationWhat the pages read sayAmerican Metal Buildings states that prices vary by location. Angi says carport prices do not vary significantly by region.
Site slope, soil and accessWhy it can move the priceGrading, a slab and remote delivery add workWhat the pages read sayAngi lists site leveling, a slab and a delivery charge for sites far from the road. Skyline notes extra fees for remote areas.
Wind and snow ratingWhy it can move the priceAn upgrade is a separate line on at least one seller's pageWhat the pages read sayAlan's Factory Outlet lists a 170 mph wind upgrade and a 12 gauge frame upgrade, with no price on the page read.

Sales taxWhy it can move the priceThe listed price can exclude taxWhat the pages read sayAmerican Metal Buildings states that its prices exclude sales tax.
Lighting and electrical workWhy it can move the priceThese are separate linesWhat the pages read sayAngi lists an electrician's hourly rate and HomeGuide lists lighting as costs apart from the carport.

Every figure on this page is a source's printed figure or arithmetic on one, and none is a quote.

How do you compare two installation quotes?

Read each quote for the same five items before comparing totals. Check whether delivery and installation sit inside the quoted price.

Check who supplies the slab or the anchoring and who pays the permit fee. Check the wind rating, the snow rating and the frame gauge, because sellers list upgrades as separate lines.

Check whether tax and remote-area fees are added, then divide each total by the footprint, so quotes for different sizes line up on one rate.

The carport builder guide explains who to ask and what a written quote should cover.
